The Countdown

Josh promised me he would take me to Six Flags Magic Mountain. After begging for Thursday off, we drove down to Santa Clarita on Wednesday night and woke up and headed to the park. We decided to eat a nice breakfast so that we wouldn't have to buy and insane park food. Eat breakfast, skip lunch, and eat dinner; that was our plan. The place we stopped for breakfast was "the best breakfast in town" according to the sign. Our plan might have worked a little better if the food was decent. Why would i desire to finish eating a breakfast burrito when McDonalds would have surpassed it's quality? Off to the park.

It was hot. I am so not used to hot weather. I started sweating standing in the first line. We were waiting for X2. The first roller coaster which also happened to be my favorite. We entered into the row for our seats and I started getting REALLY nervous. Oh well, we were in the back... or so I though. Oh wait on this ride the back becomes the front. Oops. Holy Cow my heart was pounding. We got strapped in our seats, I took my glasses of and told Josh that I loved him. The next two minutes were a blind blur. I did not open my eyes until we slowed down at the end. It was CRAZY. The seats can rotate 360 degrees so you get flipped around as you are going along on the track.

Next on to another roller coaster, then another, then another. We road only roller coasters and still didn't make it to two of them. At about 5:30 I was pooped. Josh and I sat down at a table to rest. I laid my head back onto another chair, and was instantly out. Josh said I slept for about 15 minutes. This is funny because my dad always sleeps at amusement parks. We joke that if you can't find Dad look for the sleeping man on the park bench. So my family got to make fun of me. I can blame being in the sun, hot and hungry.

We finally decided that we needed to ride X2 again and hit the road. I needed to experience this ride with my eyes open. Let me tell you ...so much better when you can see. It was so much fun. Josh and I had a great time enjoying an adventure. He looked at me at one point and said "For not being an adventurous person, you are very adventurous." This is so true. I am afraid of everything, but love crazy roller coasters and have made some pretty major moves in my life.

We left the park at about 8:30 and headed to our favorite chain greek restaurant that we don't have in Monterey. As Josh drove down to Pasadena, I was having dreams of being on a roller coaster. I was almost awake, but with every turn in the road was a turn on the ride.

The Nerve

It is almost 1 am and I can't sleep. I think it might have to do with the nap I took this afternoon. It doesn't help that I am furious. Here is my story in a nut shell. This is 100% true. No exaggerations. Promise.

My boss told me that I am insensitive for only giving 3 1/2 weeks notice. That's right. The same company who gave Josh no notice whatsoever. She told me I should have called as soon as I found out I was moving. Keep in mind that we still don't have a contract signed, plane tickets bought, visas, a place to live... She knew Josh was laid off (because she announced to my department without my permission or knowledge). Was I supposed to call her and say, "hey we might be moving, Josh is looking for another job?" That seems pretty obvious to me! One of the many funny things about this is that I asked our HR Training and Professional manager if I should discuss it with her and she said that by no means did I have to. Basically I felt persuaded to only give the standard two weeks, but because my coworker was leaving I gave more time. Another thing is that one of the three people that gave notice in less than a week gave less that two weeks notice. She wasn't told she was being insensitive.

By the strength of God I stood up to her. I expressed to her in a professional manner the MANY points I had about the situation. What still angers me though is that nothing penetrated her selfishness. She still thinks I did something wrong. I am praying for direction, peace and the ability to forgive her.

Sunday June 14h

For some reason I felt like cooking today. I didn't make anything too exciting.
Spaghetti for lunch.
Hummus. Josh thinks I like making hummus more than I like eating it. That may be true, but I see hummus as a blank slate. My favorite is sun dried tomato and basil

I made red nanner jello

Chicken and spinach with peanut satay for dinner.

I have had a box of peach jello for a long time. Since peaches are in season I bought a few to put in the jello.

Yesterday I put about 50 books on half.com, so today my book shelf looks like this... I've sold one so far.

May 2009

When there isn’t much goig on I don’t want to blog because I don’t have much to say. When there is a lot going on I don’t want to blog because there is too much to say. I will try my best to keep things brief.

May has been pretty crazy for us. May 6th Josh was laid off from Pebble Beach. That week was very emotional for us. I felt that I was being robbed of my happiness. My human nature wanted to blame a person. Josh’s boss, the CEO of PB, President Obama for not allowing companies to spend bail out money in the travel industry. God reminded me that He works all things together for good…and that he orchestrates the events of my life. We truly love the Monterey area and the thought of moving (again) was overwhelming. We have been fighting for joy. Our hope is that we can be sorrowful, but always rejoicing.

What a roller coaster of a month. It was full of great times too. We hosted three sets of visitors since Josh was let go. It was so good for him to have people around to keep him entertained. With company he has experienced world class golf with old friends. We both spent time in the cute town of Davis with people that know our hearts. That was followed by a lovely time exploring the beauty of Napa Valley. Our last guests left us last Wednesday. Josh’s Aunt, Uncle, and two cousins were in the area and we had a great time with them. Janea even got in the cold Pacific Ocean at 11:00pm while the rest of us enjoyed a bon fire on the beach. We were delighted when then decided to stay an extra night. Josh and I got to have a slumber party with the girls while their parents enjoyed a historic hotel in downtown Monterey.

Job Search:

You might not have heard, but we are in a recession. Golf is considered a luxury expense and not a necessity (some may disagree). There are jobs open, but none better than what Josh had. He doesn’t want to settle for a job that he will be unhappy with.

Right now we have open in getting into the Asian golf market. We are excited about a new adventure

It has been awhile…and I have no excuses.

Not much exciting has happened in the past two months which causes a lack of blogging.

HJNTIY

Thanks Angela for the acronym. The first time I saw the preview for “He’s Just Not That Into You” I knew I wanted to see the movie. I think it is because of “Big Love” and just how cute Gennifer Goodwin is. So forget hinting around for a few months (which I am sure Josh would have picked up on), I flat out told him I wanted to see that and he had to take me. Friday morning I was watching the news and the movie preview said that HJNTIY was opening that day. Oh, I forgot. I thought to myself that Josh better remember “surprise” me with a date. Can I really call it a surprise if I am anticipating it? Of course he remembered and planned to go to the 7:55 showing so we could go out to dinner first. There is a new restaurant that is right across the street from the theater that we wanted to try. So Josh went to buy tickets and I put our name on the list for a table. Even though we were there an hour early it was already sold out. UGH! So we enjoyed our dinner at this Lalla Grill and will definitely go back. Saturday we planned on going to the 12:45 showing. We thought it would be early enough that not a lot of people were there. Not the case. We had to sit three rows from the front. The worst part is that I had to sit by this single guy and he smelled. First of all why is a single late 20s guy going to a chick flick by himself? And second…Take A Shower. The entire movie I was turned away from him, but it did not work all that well. The fact is that of all my senses, the worst is smell. I just don’t have a very powerful sniffer, so I know it had to be bad.

The movie was very cute and both Josh and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this for a girls night out or date night.

Culture Shock at Home?

1. Toilet seat covers. In California all bathrooms are required to have toilet seat covers. Multiple times I have walked into public restrooms and do a 360 degree turn looking for the dispenser only it is not there. Honestly this is not a big deal to me, but I am just so used to using these nice little paper sheets.

2. Conservative talk radio. I was driving along listening to 1350 KMAN out of Manhattan and the radio personality made a joke about Al Gore. It took me by surprise. Al Gore is so respected on the west coast.

3. Kansas apparel. Occasional on the west coast I see KU or K-State gear, and I always have to do a double take. While in Manhattan I saw plenty of people wearing K-State shirt and I always got a little excited that I have something in common with these people until I realized where I was.

4. Seeing forever. As I was driving to Buhler late one night and saw a flashing red light warning there is a stop sign. I turned off my cruise in preparation to stop. 6 1/2 miles later I made it to the intersection.
